“Blessed are the Poor in Spirit…”
Isaiah speaks of “the poor” and “the needy in distress.” Jesus would later echo this in the first beatitude:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)
Being poor in spirit is not weakness, it’s awareness. It’s knowing that in myself I have no strength, no defense, no righteousness to boast in. It’s seeing my need and turning to the One who meets it.
To the poor in spirit, He is:
He does not remove every storm. But He shields me in it.
The Noise of the Foreigners
Isaiah says, “You subdue the noise of the foreigners.”
In Scripture, foreigners often represent voices or influences that do not belong to the covenant people of God. They are voices that do not reflect His truth or His nature.
Today, those voices may sound like:
But I am learning to say: I am not moved by that noise. Let the world scream. Let the ruthless breathe threats. Let headlines shout fear. The Lord subdues their noise.
A Better Song
Isaiah goes further:
“As heat by the shade of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is put down.”
There is a song of the ruthless in our culture, a melody of arrogance, blasphemy, pride, and rebellion. But there is a greater song rising:
Revelation calls it “the song of Moses and the Lamb.” Psalm 32 calls it “songs of deliverance.”
And I declare:
The song of the ruthless will not drown out the song of the righteous.
Refuge for the Remnant
So today, I rest in this:
Prayer
Lord, You are my shelter from the storm and my shade in the heat.
Quiet every voice that is not Yours.
Subdue every noise that exalts itself against Your truth.
Let the song of the redeemed rise in me—louder than fear, louder than anger, louder than the breath of the ruthless.
I take refuge in You. Amen.
- A Stronghold: when I feel vulnerable
 - A Shelter from the Storm: when life’s winds beat against me
 - Shade from the Heat: when pressure feels relentless

He does not remove every storm. But He shields me in it.
The Noise of the Foreigners
Isaiah says, “You subdue the noise of the foreigners.”
In Scripture, foreigners often represent voices or influences that do not belong to the covenant people of God. They are voices that do not reflect His truth or His nature.
Today, those voices may sound like:
- “You’re not going to make it.”
 - “It’s all falling apart.”
 - “Your faith is pointless.”
 - “You’re alone.”

- The song of the redeemed
 - The song of those who trust in the Shelter
 - The song of the Kingdom that cannot be shaken

Revelation calls it “the song of Moses and the Lamb.” Psalm 32 calls it “songs of deliverance.”
And I declare:
The song of the ruthless will not drown out the song of the righteous.
Refuge for the Remnant
So today, I rest in this:
- When I feel poor in spirit: the Kingdom is mine.
 - When storms come: I am sheltered.
 - When heat bears down: I am shaded.
 - When noise rises: He silences it.
 - When culture sings arrogance: I will sing redemption.

Amen.

Before I was saved, the enemy would put voices and thoughts in my head, saying “you’re not good enough”, “you’ll never succeed”, “God hates you”. But the enemy is a liar! God silenced the enemy and defeated him on the cross. Hallelujah praise be!
I copied this because I loved it so so much! And want to read it over and over again! Thank you pastor Ryan ??
When I found out a dear loved one had tried to commit suicide, I was so sick in the pit of my stomach. Then remembered "Put on the Garment of Praise for the spirit of heaviness, lift up your voice to God." After a while I recovered, then asked, "Lord, how can I love her?" The Lord answered, "The same way I love you." I did and she is alive, Happy and knows the Lord today! Thank You Lord Jesus!
I hear a song coming out of this post!
