When I Fear
2025 Bible Plan: Week 5
In today’s world, fear seems to be everywhere. Anxiety grips many hearts, leaving us feeling powerless and overwhelmed. Yet, the struggle with fear is nothing new, it is a human experience that has existed since the fall. Throughout Scripture, we find familiar stories of human anxiety.
Consider the story of Jacob as he returned to his homeland. In Genesis 32:11, we read about his deep-seated fear concerning how his brother Esau might respond to him. Jacob’s worry wasn’t born of modern times; it was a timeless emotion that even the patriarchs experienced. But right there, in the midst of his fear, Scripture reveals a remedy that can become our own source of hope to calm our fear.
The Remedy: “But YOU said”
In Genesis 32:12, Jacob recalls the promise of God by saying, “But YOU said.” This simple phrase encapsulated his faith and trust in God’s word, reminding him of the assurance that had been given. For Jacob, and for us today, those words are reminders of God’s promises that are more powerful than any remedy that doctors might prescribe.
Whenever fear creeps in, I, too, find peace in declaring, “But You said.” It’s a declaration that shifts our focus from the terror of what might be to the certainty of God’s word. It’s a verbal and spiritual reset for our soul, a call to remember that we are not defined by our fears but by the promises spoken over our lives.
Living by God’s Word in a Fearful World
In a world where fear is rampant, we are invited to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. His voice breeds trust. As the Psalmist declared, “When I am afraid, I will trust in You.” (Psalms 56:3) This profound statement invites us to surrender our anxiety and place our complete confidence in the One who holds our future.
By taking God at His word, we find the greatest place of peace. His promises are not just abstract ideas; they are living truths that calm our troubled hearts. His voice soothes our fears, much like a shepherd’s gentle call soothes his sheep guiding them to lie down in safety, trusting in the rod and staff held by their Shepherd.
Embracing Divine Assurance
Every time you feel fear tightening its grip, remember Jacob’s reminder: “But You said. Let those words be the key that unlocks your heart from the chains of anxiety. In doing so, you align yourself with a promise that supersedes human solutions. Trust in His word, and you will discover that the voice of God brings a peace that the world cannot offer…a peace that passes understanding.
May you find comfort and courage in His voice, and may it lead you to a place where fear gives way to unwavering trust and abundant peace.

Amen ! Amen! Amen !
n“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8

nAs the kids say these days God is “standing on business” when it comes to His words !!
Wonderful word from the scriptures P-Ryan. It goes perfectly with my message on the daily Bible reading app. I will use “but you said” all the time now!
But, you said!
nThank you pastor Ryan, you make the scripture so much easier for me to understand. I do have some fear of understanding some of the scripture and the ways of the church. I am very shy individual and keep to myself alot. I love Jesus Christ holeheartly! ? ♥️?
Thank you Pastor Ryan. “But You said” is a powerful reminder of God’s promises. Another verse I lean on is Isaiah 26:3. “You will keep in perfect peace, him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You.”
“ For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of calm and peace and a sound mind“. 2 Timothy 1:7
nMy favorite verse to calm my soul. A reminder that HE is not a GOD of confusion.
Thank you Pastor Ryan, you are a constant blessing! “There is no fear in love [dread does not exist]. But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God’s judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God’s love].”
n1 John 4:18 AMP
But YOU said!!! Hallelujah!!??
nLet your living truths calm my heart always when troubled. Let them be a fortress around my heart when anxiety tries to invade my heart.
nGlory to God!!!!
